La Bastide de Correns is a large country house, set on three acres of private grounds, just outside the small village of Correns, in the Var.
La Bastide is a magical place, a haven of peace and tranquility where the fresh air is scented by wild lavender, rosemary and thyme and the silence broken only by the unique sound of summertime in Provence, the chant of the cigales. A gentle climb up from the village is repaid with breathtaking views over the mountains, vineyards and the countryside all around us.
In 1997 Correns was nominated the "1st Organic Village in France" and our small farming community proudly produce the best of organic wine, honey, olives, olive oil, chickens, eggs, goats cheese and a variety of seasonal fruit and vegetables, all of which are available to buy directly from the producers in and around the village.
Correns is a very small, very French village with just 940 residents. You will find one of everything you need within walking distance: bakery, convenience store, organic food store, a chocolaterie & patisserie, newsagent/tabac, cafe/bar, post office, hairdresser, a small hotel with an excellent French restaurant. In addition there is a junior school with about 60 students, a Catholic church, the office of the Marie, the tourist office, three art galleries and a medieval castle with its ancient gargoyles looking down over the village.
We are lucky to have an excellent restaurant in our village, serving traditional Provencal and French cuisine, using locally grown produce and wines enduring the summer there are two pop-up restaurants serving good food outdoors. We also recommend some of our favourite restaurants for you to try, tucked away off the tourist trails.
The river Argens runs though the centre of the village and provides great entertainment for children in the summertime, there are fishing points and it also is the departure point ever popular Kayaking. Just outside the village is the Vallon Sourn, a wonderful protected nature zone, perfect for picnics, paddling, walking and climbing the internationally ranked crags of Chateauvert.
